Causes or Solutions for very slow Document Library

After an update to the latest version (8.1.137) from version 8.0.58, we are experiencing very slow performance when clicking on a folder in the Document Library.
The rest of the site is as responsive as always, and even clicking on the (+) signs next to the folders in the Document Library tree to expand them works fine.
It's just clicking on the folder name to open it into the right side panel that is slow.
It has taken anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes to finally display the contents of the folder.

Using the Windows Indexing Service to search for files works fine and quick, too.

I have already run maintenance on the database (SQL Server), and have restarted IIS, to no effect.

Do you have any other ideas or suggestions as to the cause or solutions to this problem?

Without full speed of the Document Library, the system is unusable for us.

Thanks!

We have seen this happen only in cases where an un-approved database back-end such as SQL Server Express is used or in cases where the DB (generally SQL Server) is completely out of wack and has not been maintained.

We recommend that you create a maintenance plan which handles basic management tasks such as transaction log dumps, update statistics etc. and run the maintenance plan nightly.

Please post a follow-up if this does not help or simply contact us at support@inforouter.com so we can hop on to your server and takle a look.
