Creation of gadget

I would like to see a provision of creating our own Gadgets so that there more flexibility in adding functionalities that we wishes to provide through the Portal? Can this be done, if yes by when will be able to provide this functionality.

Hello Parthives,

Although this request has come up from time to time, it has never gained that much traction.
Gadgets were not designed ( ) to be user defined or controlled but rather hard coded so there is no easy way to back out of this method.
Maybe in the future, we will completely re-design the portals and allow portlets or web parts.
