How to use the OCR Text processing option

Hi,
After clicking the Upload button to upload a document to the server, the ScanStation window opens with a preview of the document and there are two tabs on the right. The second tab is labeled OCR text and it has a text box labeled "Load from file" and a button to select a file from a folder.

My questions are:

What is this used for?
Are we supposed to create a text file? If yes, what should it contain? If not, what text file should be load?
How can we get ScanStation to recognize the text in a scanned document? Do we have to type the text to be recognized into a text file and load it for it to recognize the text?

Thank you.

Hello,
You need to adjust the OCR processing option from the "Process options" tab by selecting the "OCR Text is contained in files with the following extensions" checkbox.
And you should select the related format text/ocr for this.

After making this configuration, all you have to do is to place the ocr/text file into the path of your local system.
You need to name these ocr/text files as the same name with the related scanned documents.

For instance; if the file to be scanned is named as "Letters_Page_1.tiff" the ocr/text file should be named as "Letters_Page_1.ocr" or "Letters_Page_1.txt"

Then the ocr/text file will automatically be displayed in the "OCR Text" tab.

Regards.

Thank you very much for your response.

Another question is, what is the use of that OCR processing?
Is there an automation or an alternative way where we can generate the OCR/text files automatically?

The OCR is a function of the scanner equipments. There are many different scanners and third party OCR tools that can generate this information.
We do not resell any of these scanners or the software however we interface into the output of these tools.

The OCR files are also helpful for searching documents. The scanned image files will be shown up in the search results if the searched keywords are in the meta information (OCR text file).

For instance;
Using the Scan Station module, you can pull scanned invoices into infoRouter. The OCR and barcode information handled by the third-party tool can also be pulled in and associated with the document.
The Scan Station tool allows an operator to edit this information during the import process.

Please take a look at the link below that explains the process in a little more detail:
