Moving Large Files/Folders

Post by klucas1 » Thu May 05, 2011 12:26 pm

Need to create a Domain and move a folder/directory to that Domain.
The Directory that I need to move is about 50GB. As a system administrator I only been able to move/import files 11GB at a time using the import feature. Any more than that would crash the system. Is there a way to move an existing folder directory of this size without crashing the application? If there is a performance enhancement required on the hardware to accomplish this, can you provide the details on how?

Also, even if the performance was enhanced and still causes performance issues, is there a way to do this by preventing users from logging into the app while I do this move?

Hello,

You must use the Import/Export Tool to import these files.
Now, I am talking about the Import/Export Tool that you can download from the "Tools > Client Add-ins / Programs" menu.
I believe that you are using the built in Import Export tool from the web interface.

The Import/Export Tool is a GUI tool that has the capability to upload rather large files a chuck at a time, giving the server room to breathe between chunks and documents.
One of the advantages of this tool is that it can be installed on any machine and that machine does not have to be the server machine.
What's more, you can install it on multiple machines.

We have changed the "document size limit restriction" so that the SYSADMIN account is not affected by this limit. This was something you were worried about!
The new version (coming up in the next Live Update release) will introduce this change.

I hope this helps.

Thats Awesome!! Will performing the import/export function retrain the documents original Doc ID's?

Yes. Exporting only exports a copy of the documents and folders to the file system.
Every thing in infoRouter stays intact.
